6th Grade Art

6th Grade Art
In 6th grade art we build on the skills introduced in the elementary levels, introducing students to middle school concepts such as exploring their personal and family heritage and symbolism, adding depth to drawings through different forms of perspective, and adding value to drawings through shading. We also cover advanced color mixing technique.

6th grade students attend a 44 minute art class every school day for one quarter of the school year, either 6th or 7th period in the afternoon.

Students are encouraged to be responsible for their own art supplies (the school-fee-purchased art kit), and are given 7 weekly art home works (drawing assignments and art vocabulary words to use in a sentance) to create and complete over the course of the nine week quarter, in addition to the 4 or 5 main projects that are competed in class during this time.

While some in-class socializing is allowed, behaviors that are not positive and counter to productive creativity are discouraged.
