Mural Club Objective:

To create and restore original painted murals in the West Geauga Middle School building. To be part of a club that will promote collaborative learning, art appreciation and individual artistic skills, under the guidance of the Art Mural Club Advisor.

Qualifications for any 8th grade student:

=         Self-control – outstanding, mature behavior

=         Self-discipline-organization of time, skills and materials

=         Neatness-cleanliness and order or work area, supplies and tools

=         Availability of time to work (Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and possibly some Thursday times)

=         No Latex allergies

=         Ability to take suggestions and directions

=         Consideration of others

=         Commitment – being chosen for Mural Club is an honor that many want, but only a few can have. It isn’t fair to accept if you are not willing to dedicate yourself, as others will. We will work all year until Spring Break.

Application Process:

Any interested 8th grade WGMS student must attend informational meeting on September 12, and submit an individual, full-color mural design for consideration. Entries must be submitted by Friday, September 21st 2018 to Mrs. Klemm by 2:30 pm. (No late work will be accepted unless there is an excused absence for that day).

            Entry Requirements:

=         Drawings must be completed in color on white paper (no lined paper) at least 8 ½ by 11 inches.

=         Colored media may include colored pencil or paint.

=         Colors used in entry must represent exactly the colors intended for the final mural.

=         No real large “dark” areas of color, please keep spaces light and bright to promote positive attitudes.

=         Originality is required, nothing copied or traced will be allowed.

=         You may enter as many drawings as possible.

=         Your name written on the back of entry in pencil.

=         Application sheet filled out with a parent’s signature and paper clipped to entry drawing.

=         Entry turned in no later than 2:15 pm on Friday, September 21th 2018.

Subject matter, painting techniques, suggestions and placement of murals will be discussed at the informational meeting on Wednesday September 12, 2018 at 2:30 in Art room #52. If you cannot attend this meeting, please see Mrs. Klemm as soon as possible. Mural Club members will be announced the week of October 1st and will be posted on Mrs. Klemm’s door. First meeting for “new” murals will be Wednesday, October 10th. Restoration crew will have its first meeting Wednesday November 14th.

Restoration Crew: Wednesday November 14th.

Dates may be subject to change.

All Mural Club meetings are in Room 52 from 2:30-4:00 unless otherwise noted.
