Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear to practice?

Answer: A good pair of running shoes (any kind) is necessary. Shorts and a cotton t-shirt or tank top are always appropriate. When the weather gets colder, long sleeve shirts and sweats will be needed. Girls- please do not wear sports bras or shirts that your mid-section is showing, unless under your t-shirt or tank top.

1. How long are practices?

Answer: All practices will be 2 hours in summer and 1 1/2 hours when school begins.

2. Where do we get dressed and meet after school?

Answer: After school each day you need to get to the locker rooms and change. We always meet outside the doors of Eighth Grade hallway. (Mr. P’s and Mrs. Jerele’s rooms ). Be there promptly at 2:55

3. When is practice over?

Answer: Have your parents pick you up in front of the school sharply at 4:30.

4. What if I cannot make practice?

Answer: If you have a doctor’s appointment, or a commitment that you cannot change, please email or get me a note ASAP. The day before is always better than the day of.

5. Does everyone compete in meets?

Answer: Everyone competes in meets. The top 7 times count to our team total, but everyone will compete.

6. Can I ride home with my parents after a meet?

Answer: We do allow you to ride home with your parents. We have to have a permission slip before we get on the bus. Please do not have parents give them to us during a meet or after. We need to have them before we leave.

7. How long is each race?

Answer: The races range from 1.8 miles to 2.2 miles. Every course is a little different.

8. How much will I run every day at practice?

Answer: Every day we will be running. EVERY DAY! Every day will vary in length. Each week you will be working on short distances, sprints, hills, track work and longer runs. Come prepared to work hard for 1 hour.

9. How will I be informed about dates and events?

Answer: Before each event, an information sheet will be sent out with all times and places, directions,etc. It is very important to give these to your parents.

All participants need to have a Current Physical on file in the office before you can start practicing. Each member of the team must also have an Emergency Medical Card complete and their Activity Fee paid. You may not participate until your physical is completed and on file in the office. No exceptions. Physicals are good for one full year. Please check to see when your physical expires.
