Reading
 2015415112549144_image.jpgDescription:

We use a variety of strategies and materials while teaching reading in order to ensure that the needs of all students are met. We have students read in small groups for guided reading at their levels, independently, in small groups of mixed ability, and with the entire class. We use a diverse selection of novels, trade books, plays, and short stories found in a basal reader from the Scholastic Reading Series. We cover many genres, including, realistic fiction, fantasy, mystery, historical fiction, poetry and non-fiction. The children use dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias to locate information, both in text format and web based. The children will always have time during the day for self selected silent reading and will be read to by the teacher. Reading fluency and comprehension will be monitored to track progress.
