Prom / Grad Letter from Ohio Department of Public Safety

With the start of prom and graduation season upon us, this is an exciting time for high school students, as well as friends and family, taking part in all of the festivities surrounding these memorable events in a teenager’s life. This time of celebration can easily turn to a time of tragedy because of the increased prevalence of underage drinking, as teens may be tempted to drink at after-prom parties and graduation celebrations.

FINAL EXAM SCHEDULE

Senior final exams will be scheduled from May 24 – May 30.  Seniors are expected to be in attendance for the entire day on each of these days.

2013 FINAL EXAM SCHEDULE Grades 9, 10, 11 will be scheduled from June 3 - June 5.

Iowa Tests of Achievement

During the month of May, your student will take the Iowa Assessments™. The purpose of this announcement is to inform you about the tests so that—with your support and encouragement—your student will do his or her best on the tests.

College and Career Readiness/Ohio's New Standards

To be college- and career-ready, high school graduates must have studied a rigorous and broad curriculum, grounded in the core academic disciplines, but also consisting of other subjects that are part of a well-rounded education. Academic preparation alone is not enough to ensure postsecondary readiness but it is clear that it is an essential part of readiness for college, careers, and life in the 21st century.

OHIO NEW EXAMS - Graduation test to be subbed out

Ohio will dump its high-school graduation test and replace it with a tougher college-readiness exam and a series of end-of-course tests. The new assessments will gauge whether students are prepared for college or ready for careers, benchmarks that the Ohio Graduation Test doesn’t measure.
State education officials announced yesterday that the new exams will be required starting with sophomores in the 2014-2015 school year.
