As I write this message as Superintendent of West Geauga Local Schools, I want to thank everyone for their support. I would also like to share what is important to me as your Superintendent; Our kids, our schools, our families, our community, and our future. As you know, we are in the business of educating students and helping these students to realize and achieve their full potential. This is important to all of us. Working together, keeping lines of communication open, and continually trying to improve, West Geauga Local Schools will continue to excel with the help of our wonderful community.
West Geauga Local Schools has added ways to enhance communication with the community, while at the same time saving cost to the district. We will utilize the spirit of collaboration and combine existing resources available to us. As a Superintendent in the West Geauga Local Schools, I will be visible in the community. I realize how important your time is and my goal is to get information to you in the most convenient way possible. As a district, we are going to try some new approaches for communication. One of the goals for West Geauga Local Schools is to enhance communication with the community and maximize existing resources while we continue to be fiscally responsible.
With fiscal responsibility in mind, please understand that it is the mission and a goal of this board of education, administration and staff to be fiscally responsible and to be good stewards of your tax dollars. We have made some changes and will continue to take measures to reduce spending. I will continue to work together with everyone to be fiscally responsible while at the same time maintaining our current high standards that we have here in West Geauga Local Schools, while also at the same time, challenge our staff and extend our children to be the very best they can be.
These are exciting times in West Geauga Local Schools, so whether your child is an incoming kindergarten student this year, returning student or you are new to the district, a good first experience as school starts is extremely important. Communicate an enthusiasm for learning to your students and children. Encourage them to use their imagination, and encourage them to read and expand their knowledge.
Elementary is the time for children to learn all the important basic skills. You can help them by listening to them read, providing math drills, and studying with them. Intermediate and Middle School students are becoming more independent learners. Give them support as they transition from child to teen. High school students should now be taking responsibility for most aspects of their learning. Start discussing college and career options with them and talk to them regularly about what is going on in the world around them. Whether you have sons, daughters, grandchildren, or a stake in our schools and community, communication is a vital part to everyone’s overall success.
In closing, I want take this opportunity once again to thank everyone for their support since taking the job as Superintendent. Yes, we are facing some challenges this upcoming year, and yes we will face them, and we will become a stronger district because of those challenges! I will see you in the community and at events, and as always, if you have a question or a concern, please do not hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call at 440-729-6812.
