Softball Season Starting Soon
by Julie Murawski Sports Editor

This year the fast pitch softball team is ready to roll. The team is led by a large, confident senior class: Maria Cosenza, Sam Poe, Rachel Harmon, Kelly McCormick, Rachel Gorjanc, Molly Pashke, Dana Cappelucci, Amanda Brochak, Kristin Stadler and Jill Gelhfuss. Captains Maria Cosenza and Dana Cappelucci plan to lead their team to the goal of the CVC championship, past rival Perry, who also will be their toughest game this year. Coach Mr. Ron Dalhoffer and his assistants Mr. Tom Alley, Mr. Sandy Siegler and Mr. Tony Schibelli, will do what is necessary to prepare the team to compete with the best. The team is determined to improve from last year when they ended the season with a 4-16 record. Cappelucci said, "I am looking forward to this season; it should be a good one, we have a lot of talent and a lot of desire. We definitely benefit from having 11 seniors on the team…" The team is preparing for these goals by having intense practices and playing very tough competition in the pre-season. They have already beat Warrensville Heights in a preseason scrimmage. They will conclude their pre-season play with a weeklong trip to Orlando, Florida.

Twelve girls are going to Florida from April 12-17 to play seven games. The goal of the trip for some (like senior Rachel Gorjanc) is to get a tan, but others hope to improve individually and as a team. One of the main goals captain Dana Cappelucci said is to bond as a team and to most of all WIN. They will be playing some tough competition in between riding rides at Disney World. The team is keying in this year on their defense because of all the returning players. Losing only three seniors from last year, most of their positions are filled by experienced players. Pitching for the team are senior Rachel Harmon and junior Brittney Thrush. Catching for the team are seniors Maria Cosenza and Sam Poe. The infield is being occupied by senior Molly Pashke at first base, Dana Cappelucci, at second, Junior Katie Kleinknecht at shortstop and junior Megan Manno at third. The outfield is controlled by Jill Gelfuss, Kelly McCormick, Kristen Stadler and Amanda Brochak, rotating the three positions. Senior Molly Pashke said, " We have a really good infield. I am really excited for this season's play." The Junior Varsity team is coached by Mr. Passifume and Mr. Gordon Petronsky coaches the freshman. Good luck to all the girls this season.
