New track to be Installed

Everyone knows that rumors are a part of life!! And some of you might even have heard rumors lately of some excessive spending that might be going on at West Geauga High School. Well, my fellow students, it's not a rumor but an actual fact; West Geauga is going to be replacing the outdoor track.
The project is scheduled to commence in late May and proceed through the end of the summer. On behalf of the track team, I'd like to say, "YES, it's about time!" If you've ever run on the track, (which everyone should have had the opportunity to do during gym class), you know the reasons behind the excitement. We've been tripping over potholes caused by spikes, wondering where our race begins because the lines and lane markers have all but faded into oblivion and pulling pieces of the track out of out legs for years now. If you disagree, ask Then Design, the company that decreed the four inside lanes of out track "unrunable."
However, the start of the construction will be happening at a very inconvenient time. The CVC track meet, normally hosted by West Geauga, will be moved to Perry. Furthermore, this spring, West Geauga will not host ANY track meets: that means no quad, no Wolverine Invite, and no dual meets. After asking Mr. Rockwell, our athletic director, I found out the project probably wont even start until June. Anything could happen. Were actually tearing the track out; we may possibly run into problems, like drainage, that could postpone the start for another month.
Calling the track a pretty big project is an understatement. The new eight lanes, 400 meters around, will cost the district anywhere from $200,000 to $250,000 dollars, and will take anywhere from two to three months to complete. The main concern is to have the project completed before the 2004 fall season begins.
