WG baseball steps up to the Plate

It was a long, sunny Spring Break for the baseball team. Led by captains, senior Brent Skoda and junior Frank Cikach, the varsity boys managed to have the time of their lives. Bryan Yenc claimed the best time was spent off the field: "Most the guys liked to lay around by the pool and tan - especially Drew Picciano and Dave DiFranco." The team ended its break winning three games and losing two to some tough competition.
Back at home, the boys have struggled, but that doesn't mean baseball fans have nothing to look forward to: "We just beat Rocky River in the first round of sectionals [May 6th] and we're now in the sectional finals which will be home against U.S. on May 13th." Sadly, West G. dropped that game by a score of 10 - 4, eliminating the team from the post season playoffs.
As for the CVC, it's not probable they'll end up bringing the crown home this year, but Dave admitted they did have a memorable game. "The best game was definitely our win against Perry. Brent hit a 2-run home run, while Brad Davidson pitched a complete game." There are still more CVC games due to the bad weather in the first few weeks. Baseball is different from other sports in the sense that the conference isn't always over before the playoffs begin.
While the season isn't going exactly as they wanted victory - wise, the team has put forth a strong effort in all their games and has represented West G.eauga with pride.
