Swimming makes the move up to Varsity
by Heather Vitale, Staff Writer
As the 2003 winter sports begin to take off, the swim team is diving into the
watery, wet pool of training. Luckily, the pool they practice in is heated,
so the falling snow wont be a problem. This is the very first year swimming
will be considered a varsity sport. The team has been a club for the past 7
years. With roughly thirty students on the team, Coach Mrs. Debbie Diaduin is
sure to be kept busy. With captains Dylan Long and Mandy Okrez, nothing is holding
them back. From the one side, seniors Jamie Diaduin and Mandy Okrez guide the
ladies. On the other side, Dylan Long, the only senior in his fourth year, leads
the boys team with pride.
One of Mandys jobs is to keep the team focused. She commented, I think this will be our best year. I think well have a lot of swimmers going to districts. Dylan Long spoke about all the new talent on the team this year and he has high hopes for the meets.
One comment he made that stood out was, Speedos dont just make you swim faster, theyre very stylish, too. Thats just one example about how unique our team really is!
