The Road Ends Here

The 2003 cross country season has wound down to a close and for the five returning
seniors it marks the end of their high school cross country careers. It has
been a successful season for both the girls and boys teams, as the teams have
come a long way. 2003 has consisted of great performance as a team and for each
of the individuals, there were many personal records broken during the season.
The teams have scored well all season long, getting help from all 22 runners,
including the freshman who are valuable contributors to this year's success.
The girls had a goal to finish 3rd at the CVC meet in early October. They fell just short of their goal, but a 4th place finish is not bad. Many girls set personal records on their way to a great finish at the CVC meet.
Coaches Mr. John Boylan and Mr. Mike Taurasi have seen their teams grow close to each other throughout the season, and it is the biggest reason for this year's success. The cross country team has definitely improved from last year both on and off the trail. The kids put in a lot of effort and it has paid off each and every time they run those 3.1 miles. Both the girls and the boys teams had plans to qualify for regionals, as they looked forward to a great final stretch of the 2003 cross country season. For seniors Kit Skurek, Joel Bihary, Dominic Rocci, Jason Vandress and Jordan Wright, they looked ahead to a great ending to their high school careers.
On October 18, the teams competed in the district with hopes of qualifying to the regional meet later this month. Unfortunately for all of the runners, their seasons ended with the exception of Courtney Cowper, who is the only West G. runner to qualify for the regional meet. The ending was unfortunate the way it closed, but they can all look back on a fantastic season.
