Girl's Soccer Team Bows Out of Playoffs
by Eric Leventhal, Editor-in-Chief
The girl's soccer season came to an end on October 22 with a disappointing 0-4
loss to Massillon Jackson. Despite playing their best soccer of the season,
the Wolverines were unable to advance past the third round of the Division I
Going into the game, the team was on a roll, having beaten Kent Roosevelt and Aurora in the first two rounds of the playoffs. The victory over Aurora was particularly dramatic, with sophomore forward Cynthia Colt scoring the game's winning goal in double overtime.
Despite finishing their difficult regular season schedule with a .500 record of 7-7-2, many players feel that they didn't live up to their potential. "I think that if we were more disciplined, we could have had a better record," said senior midfielder Kristen Chapic. After being knocked out of last year's playoffs in the third round by Laurel, the Wolverines had vowed to advance farther this year. The team also failed to take the CVC title from Chagrin Falls, which was one of their main goals at the beginning of the season.
Despite the season's disappointments, the Wolverines remain upbeat. "We really improved as a team as the season went on," said Chapic.
