As autumn comes to and end with its colorful leaves falling and nasty wind
blowing, a whole new group of athletes starts their training. When people think
of the winter apparel they think scarves, gloves and winter coats, but what
about Speedos and bathing suits? Well, if you’re a swimmer at West Geauga
High School then wearing a Speedo or swimsuit is part of your winter attire.
This year's team is made up of seven seniors. The captains are seniors Mike Dickard, Brian Sacash, Niki Tranchita, and Vikki Zengo. Returning seniors include Tera D' Ambrosia (diving), Kristen Miller and Danielle Barielle. Returning juniors Matt Liderbach, Rachel Scholtz, David MacDonald, Jessica (Jay) Mullins, Brad Okeson, Ashely Haines, Leah Frires and Alex Cowper . Underclassman on the team Dave Schindler, Andy Merriman, Gabby Markoff, Sarah Maness, Ryan Evert, Caitlyn Roth, Niki South, Becky Roman, Amanda Stark, Jamie Todd, Michael Dickard, Jason Sacash, Erin O’Neal, Katie Kiraly, Andrew Bohnert, Mike Shanker, Joe Vober, Anthony Pirc, and Todd Kowalaski.
The team practices at University Schools, which is farther away to practice than the gym. The team pays for all their own uniforms, coach fees, equipment, and time slots at the pool. That just goes to show that the swimmers are truly dedicated to their sport. With such dedication and talent this season looks to be a good one for West G. Good Luck Swimmers!
