Maple Festival Queen???
by Caitlin Kraly, Staff Writer

Every year Geauga County has a Maple Festival and every year girls from West G. Compete for the Maple Festival Queen title. This year Senior Ashley Gademer and Junior Megan Wilber both competed. Sadly, neither placed, but both gave a great show.
When asked what they had to do to get ready for the festival, they said that they had to create a 3-5 minute commercial promoting the Maple Festival. Megan and Ashley were both nominated by either a teacher or a friend. The girls who applied met for preliminaries, and then the judges narrowed it down to 10 girls. While neither Ashley nor Megan placed, they were on the Queen’s Court. Kristy Morris from Chardon eventually became Queen. Ashley and Megan both said, “It was a fun experience!”
The Maple Festival is always held the weekend after Easter. The festival celebrates the maple syrup that is a big in Geauga County. There are more events than the queen contest. There are also parades, maple syrup judging and auction, photo contest, bathtub races, craft shows, rides and more entertainment. Next year when you are sitting around on April 12-15 go to the festival and hang out.
