"Women at Work," a team from West Geauga High School took home top honors at the First International Construction Challenge regional competition in Cincinnati on January 12, 2008. Lauren Wargelin (12th), Lindsey Wargelin (11th), Jordyn Heilinger (10th), Jenny Wajahn (10th) and Evin McMullen (Hawken, 12th) topped 24 other registered teams in two of the three sections of the competition, the debate and product development sections. The girls were also awarded an expense paid trip to Las Vegas to compete in the international finals in March, along with their coaches Dana Heidenreich and Angela Wargelin. The competition will be held in conjunction with a Construction Expo in Las Vegas. The team constructed a cardboard bridge and tested it for strength, debated the merits of water purification systems and created an educational game in separate, timed portions of the competition. Students from the Midwest competed in Cincinnati. In Las Vegas, they will compete for scholarships for college and other prizes with teams from across the United States and Canada.
