New Faces, Same Traditions

This year’s basketball season is off with a bang. After losing all five starters, as well as their head coach, the team has many new people stepping up to meet the season’s challenges. The boys basketball team has a lot of talent and people will realize that quickly. New coach, Mr. Frank Vosicky, who was an assistant to Mr. Frazier for six years, will lead the team as they try to win an upgraded CVC.
“I am very excited to have this opportunity. West Geauga has a tradition of great basketball teams and I hope to add to that,” said Coach Vosicky. The team has fourteen members, including standout players like sophomore sensation, Liam Walsh and senior, Chris “Big Red” or “The Hall Monitor” Hall. The captains on the team are seniors Dean Giarizzo and Ross Locigno. The new assistant coaches for this Wolverine roster are alumnus, Mr. Mark Arrigo, and Mr. John Cardiero, the JV coach as well as the new athletic director. The goals of the team are to try to win the CVC and go deep into tournament play, which has been moved from Madison to Mentor.
The first game versus Hawken was a successful one. Junior Louie Link was high scorer with 20 points in the victory 58-52 to start out the season with a win. “Our team is really coming together,” said Ross Locigno, “we are really working hard.” The team is currently 1-3.
Overall, this basketball team will be much better than what people expect. It is a very talented team and is being led in the correct direction. Every player on the team has a chance to step up and make a difference in the game.
