This year there were six West Geauga swimmers qualified to districts. Seniors
Jamie Todd and Anthony Pirc, juniors Ashley Zeigler and Beau Lejeunese, sophomore
Jaclyn Gleske and freshman Jen Dickard swam their hardest Friday and Saturday,
February 15 and 16 at Cleveland State University.
In order to qualify a swimmer must place in the top three for individual events and top two for relays at each of the five Northeast Ohio sectional meets
Jamie Todd, who is a repeat qualifier, qualified in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle with times of 26.96 and 58.85. At districts Jamie finished 26 of 29 in the 100 and 30th of 30 in the 50 freestyle. Beau Lajeunesse, also a repeat district qualifier, qualified for the 200 yard individual medley with his personal and school record time of 2:07.80. He finished 30th of 48 swimmers. Anthony Pirc, who also swam last year in the districts meet, competed in the 200 yard freestyle with his personal and school record time of 1:52.37. At districts, where he decreased his PR time by .6 seconds, he finished 36th of 51 swimmers. Jaclyn Gleske, who scored the only points West G had at districts, qualified for the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:26.24, and the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.94. Jaclyn finished 16th of 30 in the IM and 21st of 30 in the breast stroke. Jaclyn also competed in the breaststroke in the 200 yard medley relay along side Ashley Ziegler (backstroke), Jamie Todd (butterfly) and Jen Dickard (freestyle). The girls relay finished 19th out of 20, even though they were seeded 20th.
All district swimmers trained hard throughout the year and got their bodies in shape to swim their best at the 2008 districts. Although nobody qualified for state, two school records were broken and many times were improved.
Congratulations to the swim team for an outstanding season!
