Goin’ For the Three-Peat
by Chris Amicarelli, Staff Writer

Spring sports have already begun training and the baseball team, coached by Mr. Jay Kletecka, has been working hard in the halls every day. Coach Kletecka’s varsity assistants are Mr. Dale Smith, Mr. Bud Burkle, and Mr. Guy McIntyre. The junior varsity team will be coached by Mr. Bill Dunkle.
Returning seniors to this year’s varsity team will be Joe Leonette, Lucas Koen, Jordan Onderdonk, Chris Amicarelli, Dean Giarizzo, Robbie LaRiccia and Alex Port. LaRiccia was the 2007 CVC champion team’s leader in home runs and Port was the 2007 team’s leader in RBI’s and batting average. Although the team has a lot of returning talent, juniors will be looked at to step up and play at the varsity level. Taylor Crawford, Steve Shipitalo, Anthony Pinto and Brett Williams all have the raw talent for the jobs. However, every position will be earned the week of tryouts, March 12th through 14th.
“We’ve been CVC champs two years in a row now and we should be able to three-peat. If our arms hold up, we’re in good enough shape. Then we should be in this for the long haul,” said senior Joe Leonette. Fellow senior Robbie LaRiccia had to say, “Winning CVC isn’t the goal this year. We’ve already done it twice since I was a sophomore. We want to raise a banner in the gym and make a trip to Columbus and play in the state tournament.”
