Ox On The Box

The girls basketball team finished its season with a bang! Of their last five regular season games, they won four. They played hard in the playoffs and fell to the #3 seed, Lake Catholic, in the sectional final game. Considering all of the adversity they faced this year with injuries and illness, their 10-12 final record was impressive. The girls were also 6-4 in the CVC this year – the same as last season – even when they lost four seniors to graduation in the spring of ’07.
The season was so successful because every member of this year’s team made numerous contributions. Each girl had a different role, whether it was senior captain and starter or freshman rookie. When asked who made a big impact upon the season, Head Coach Ms. Cheryl Rye commented, “The new varsity members made the most of their opportunity and really made an impact.”
The team wasn’t only a group of young freshmen and sophomores, though. Captains Caitlin Insana and Caitlin Wajahn carried the team on their shoulders through the big wins and the tough losses. Caitlin “Ox” Insana served as the vocal leader, taking young players under her wing and always playing with intensity and energy. Caitlin “Waj” Wajahn was an inspirational captain, showing her teammates what it meant to play through hard times by playing with a tough ankle sprain.
The girls also bonded on a different level off the court this year. “This team definitely had fun together and will have lifelong memories of the season,” said Coach Rye.
Congratulations on a great season, ladies, and good luck to Caitlin and Caitlin in college!
