Freshmen Softball

Take me out to the ball game. Take me out to the crowd! Yup, it’s softball season again, and who better to go see than the West Geauga Freshmen softball team. With their season already evolving into a winning one, the team’s record is 2-1.
Their excellent pitching and unstoppable defense are a couple of the many skills the girls bring to the table. Adding that the girls could use a little touch-up on their foot speed and lateral movement, Coach Petronsky says, “Improving on that will be a major defensive goal this year.” Making batting a main priority at practice, the girls work hard to improve their bunting and slap bunting skills, too.
Although the girls lost to Mentor during the season, they beat them in their only scrimmage.
Lack of freshmen teams at other schools makes it hard for the girls to play their desired amount of games, but Mr. Cardiero is looking for more games to add to their schedule. There is no reason to bum about the rainouts, either. All conference games will be rescheduled. The girls plan to keep improving, and hope to keep winning games.
