It might be raining and pouring, but the softball team is in full swing! Captains
M.A. Podolgar, Kelly Karbowitz, Erin Bukvick and Grace Komar have great expectations
for this season, especially considering the mass amount of seniors this year.
Not only does the team have four captains but also five other seniors. Melissa
Lee, Lori Sobolewski, Andi Levine, Caitlin Keil, and Becky Roman hope to lead
to the team to victory. The seniors are also putting a lot of faith in the younger
girls on the varsity roster: Brittany Tecco, Kelly and Nicole Johnson, Amber
Drenski and Stephanie Podlogar.
“Our goal for this season is winning the CVC. I am also looking forward to getting closer as a team and improving as an individual player,” said 4-year letter winner Grace Komar.
Coach Mr. Bob Kleinknecht also has high hopes to win the CVC and, “go farther into the state tournament than any West G. softball team before them.”
The team had a lot of open gyms and played winter ball at CSU to prepare for this season. Over Spring Break they went to Cincinnati and played six scrimmages to get the team chemistry going. Big rivals Perry and Kenston are coming up and will probably be destroyed due to the team’s hard work and determination.
As long as everyone doesn’t step on the chalk before the game (the team’s superstition), the 2008 varsity softball team will surely have a great season!
