What would the Friday of homecoming week be without a little rain and a chilly breeze? Regardless of the weather, Student Council, the court, the escorts and the Wolverines all did a great job. Student Council members were up and rolling at 9 am pushing through blood, sweat and tears to build a city in a day. Some dedicated personnel spent 6+ hours there and the outcome was spectacular.
The homecoming court, all on Student Council, left set-up to go primp and put on their pantsuits. They were all dressed, ready and pretty at 4:30 where they met their escorts, convertibles and the band for a pre-game homecoming parade. Candy was thrown and the video cameras were rolling, as the girls were all smiles as they rolled into school. A group of kids, including the entire court, blazed over to McDonalds for a nervous bite to eat before the announcement of queen.
The girls were all shaking (either from jitters or chills), as they made the long walk down the field, listening to their speeches being read to the crowd. “It was nerve-racking walking in front of everyone… and I didn’t even have heels on!” said escort Lucas Koen. As proud parents wiped their eyes, the much-deserving Grace Komar was crowned queen.
After the festivities the Wolverine football team took the field and crushed Orange in a 56-0 win. Senior Bob Scott had three touchdowns and Whirlwind’s own Chris Amicarelli and Joe Barille racked up another combined 3.
Congratulations everyone on a safe and happy homecoming weekend!
