Ending With an Ace

The girls tennis team ended the season with an impressive record of 11-5. As a team the ladies finished third in CVC behind Kenston and Orange. Wonder twins, Nicole and Kelly Johnson, lost in a close match for first place in CVC first doubles and, as a result, placed second. This is still a significant accomplishment for their first year on varsity. When it came time for sectionals, all of the girls, except for Susan Hanover, lost in their first matches. Susan continued all the way to the final eight and lost in a tough match to Gilmour, just missing qualifying to Districts.
Coach Mr. Jay Kletecka, who is planning to coach next year, hopes to see the girls beat both Kenston and Orange next year. He expects a team that is only losing a few players to have a continued competitiveness within our division. He looks fondly back to line judging at Solon for the last match, Susan at first singles, and winning 3-2 as a team as a result of Susan’s win. He also, of course, will miss the seniors. “[I will miss] the added drama [the seniors] brought to the team,” he says and adds, “just kidding, Susan and Andi.”
