The contest was a business plan competition for the Scholarship of Entrepreneurial Engagement (SEE) 2008/2009 Science and Technology Idea Forum. The students came up with a need (choosing the field of biomedical engineering) and determined the need for a portable artificial lung. They researched current technology and then investigated the development, discoveries and inventions that are currently happening that would contribute to their design. They identified what technology still needs to be developed for their product to work. Next, they laid out a business plan that covered design, development, limitations, market analysis, marketing strategy and investment expectations.

The students and their advisor, West Geauga High School science teacher Natalie Cooper, are invited to attend a SEE recognition event that will be held in the Fenn Ballroom at Cleveland State on May 26.

First place winner: ArtePulmonarius: (A biomedical engineering science plan to develop a portable, personal, artificial lung) West Geauga HS- Students: Andrew Forrai, Kaleigh Judson, Rachel Murry, Aly Platek, and Claire Slusarz. The teacher that went was Mrs. Natalie Cooper (first prize of $500 to split between the five members.)
