Throughout the season the boys cross country has improved greatly. Week 1 was at the George Clements Invitational, for many it was there first race ever. Though the team did not fare well, placing 7th out of 8 teams, the returning varsity runners ran well to where they were at the end of last season. Leading the way were Juniors Kyle Wilcox (19:36) and Pat Neuman (19:41). The following week at the Orange Invite the team fared much better placing 2nd out of 7 teams losing a tight race to Beachwood by one point. Leading the way for the team were Juniors Mark Barber (18:31) and Kyle Wilcox (18:33). The team was faced with a huge challenge going up against many powerhouse teams when they traveled to the Bruce Lerch Invitational in Brecksville. In the Varsity race the guys did not finish well placing 20th out of 23 teams, they were led by Mark Barber (19:22) and Pat Neuman (20:07). In the JV-Open race the team fared much better placing 9th out of 16 teams, they were led by Sophomore Colton Crowl (21:05) and Freshman Jason Rains (21:14). Just days later The Wolverines cross country team traveled to the Beachwood Invitational to get revenge on the Bison. Improving greatly since the Orange Invite the boys team and beat Beachwood by 43 points! Leading the was Mark Barber (19:21) and Pat Neuman (19:26). Week 5 made a return of team favorite the Open Door Invitational where the Varsity and JV-Open teams fared very well. In the Varsity race all runners placed in the top 20 led by Mark Barber 3rd place (18:54) and Kyle Wilcox 4th place (18:55). Their performances helped the Guys win their first meet of the season. In the Open race the boys swept the race in which the top 5 medal winners all from West G. First place, Senior Nate Huntsbeger (19:51), second place, Senior Jeremy Kazee (19:54), third place, Jason Rains (19:59), fourth place, Colton Crowl (20:04), Junior Skylor Gomes (20:14) On October 1st the Varsity top 9 traveled to the Gilmour Invitational in another meet with State Champions. Leading the way for the team were Mark Barber (18:57) and Senior Jonathon Moritz (19:05), whom helped the team place 14th out of 17 teams. At the Stow Invitational the team had a new runner up front, as they were led by Sophomore Daniel Tintera (19:01) and was followed by Mark Barber (19:18), the team finished 5th out of 6 teams. The final week for many on the team, traveled to the CVC Championships in Perry. Leading the way once again were Daniel Tintera (18:43) and Mark Barber (18:52) helping the varsity team place 5th out of nine teams behind the usual powerhouses in the conference. In the open race two runners earned varsity spots for Districts, Skylor Gomes (19:25) and Freshman Dennis Head (19:29). In the final week the boys team did not fare as well as they would have hoped, placing last out of 8 teams. Pacing them were Pat Neuman, 25th place (18:53), and Daniel Tintera, 32nd place (19:12). Even though the season didn't end as they would have hoped Coach Boylan has high expectations for the upcoming seasons.
