The boys cross country team opened their season on August 27th at the George Clements Invitational hosted by University School. The boys faired decently with Senior Derek Meer leading the charge with a 35th place finish. In week 2 the team traveled to the Orange Invite where the boys narrowly beat Westlake with a tiebreaker. Top Finishers for the boys were Junior Gabe Mihacevich (5th place, 19:17), Sophomore Joey Rains (7th place, 19:18), Senior Mark Barber (9th place, 19:22), Senior Skylor Gomes (10th Place, 19:23), and Junior Dan Tintera (12th place, 19:32). Following the victory the team faced a difficult challenge at the Bruce Lerch Invitational where they had an uphill (and very muddy) battle the entire race. The Boys ran slower than expected with all the mud, but still managed a 13th place finish in the varsity race, and a 9th place finish in the Junior Varsity race. As week 5 came around many guys still exhausted from Brecksville, the team traveled to the McDonough Invitational, leading the way for the team in the Varsity race was Gabe Mihacevich (39th place, 18:48), in the Junior Varsity race was Senior Kyle Wilcox (Place not available, 19:30), and in the Open race was Junior Colton Crowl (63rd place, 20:39). Week 6 is where the boys really shined, in the Varsity race all 7 runners finished in the top 20, all earning medals. In the Open race only the top 5 finishers received medals, and West Geauga finished first through 7th without another school finishing until 8th place. Medal winners for the boys; Varsity: 10. Dan Tintera, 12. Pat Neuman, 13. Mark Barber, 14. Skylor Gomes, 15. Gabe Mihacevich, 17. Kyle Wilcox, 19. Joey Rains. Open: 1. Derek Meer, 2. Dennis Head, 3. Jason Rains, 4. Alex Becker, 5. Colton Crowl. Their finishes were good for a 2nd place team finish. Heading into the Gilmour Invitational expectations were high, but weather factored into their finish, placing 13th out of 19 teams, ahead of CVC rivals Beachwood and Orange. The following week the boys took the Andrews-Osborne Invitational by storm by winning their second meet of the season, placing twelve of the teams top runners in the top twenty two. Leading the way for the boys was Gabe Mihacevich with a new career personal record at 18 minutes 00 seconds. Going into the last week of the season for a large portion of the team, an unexpected postponement of the Chagrin Valley Conference Championship meet. Despite the postponement the boys went out strong and emerged as runners-up in the Chagrin Division of the Chagrin Valley Conference. The team defeated rivals Chagrin Falls, Kenston, and Perry in the process. Leading the way for the team were Kyle Wilcox (11th place, 19:14, Second Team All CVC), Gabe Mihacevich (16th place, 19:28, Second Team All CVC), Skylor Gomes (19th place, 19:34, Honorable Mention All CVC), and Mark Barber (22nd place, 19:46, Honorable Mention All CVC). The Boys capped the season off with a 9th place finish in the Division 1 race. Leading the way for the boys were Skylor Gomes (37th place, 19:44) and Gabe Mihacevich (38th place, 19:46). Congratulations to the team on their success this season, which included two first place finishes (Orange Invitational and Andrews-Osborne Invitational) and two second place finishes (Open Door Invitational and Chagrin Valley Conference Championship).
