The West Geauga Local School District Receives The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting
The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the West Geauga Local School District by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). Long-Range Planning Committee Volunteers
The district is asking for community member volunteers to participate in the long-range planning process. There are 4 committees - Achievement, Communication and Collaboration, Facilities and Finance. The district is seeking community members with applicable qualifications to serve on each of the committees. The commitment will entail some evening and weekend meetings during the months of April and May 2013.
An introduction/kick-off meeting was held on April 3. The committees began their work on April 20 with future meetings to be determined. If you are interested in participating and feel you have a specific expertise or interest in one of the above-mentioned areas, please complete the application via the link below.

State Science Day
West Geauga High School students Kirstin Boni, Stephen Merriman and Layla Nosek qualified and competed in The Ohio Academy of Science State Science Day. The competition was on May 11th and was hosted by The Ohio State University. State Science Day is the pinnacle of student originated, inquiry-based science education for Ohio's students. Congratulations to the students listed here for their Excel Technical Education Career Consortium (TECC) accomplishments! The Outstanding Senior award will be handed out at Senior Send-off. We are proud that our TECC graduating seniors earned over $8 million in scholarships this year.

Geordi Kogovsek Earns Recognition at International DECA Conference
West Geauga Senior and Excel TECC marketing class student Geordi Kogovsek just returned from the DECA International Marketing Competition in Anaheim, Califorfnia. There were 16,000 marketing students from around the world trying to make the stage. Geordi made the stage and earned the “Top 10 Medal”. He beat out 250 of the best and brightest that every continental state and various countries had to offer. Mad City Money Competition
On April 20th, West Geauga High School students Anne Dolphin, Rachel Szczepinski, Makayla Molle, Olivia Pirosko, Sal Daddario and Tori Sargent participated in Mad City Money. This scholarship competition allows high school juniors and seniors to show off their budgeting prowess. It was held at Lakeland Community College and was sponsored by Cardinal Community Credit Union. To learn more, click here.

Environmental Discovery Team's Winning Results
A team of eight students from West Geauga High School is one of four teams from across the country to earn $25,000 in scholarships and grants in the Lexus Eco Challenge, an educational program and contest that inspires and empowers young people to learn about the environment and take action to improve it. The team included Kelli Wright, Cal Slusarz, Noah Andes, Lilly Makee, Greg Concilla, Max Kucera, Andrew Todaro and Liam Andes. To learn more, click the title above.

DECA Career Development Conference Results
All four West Geauga students made the stage at the 69th Annual Ohio DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) Career Development Conference in Columbus. Mary Anderson, Marissa Stark, Geordi Kogovsek and Gavin Clark were the "Top 10" finalists in their respective events. Geordi Kogovsek came in First Place in the Principal of Business Management and Administration Event. He had the highest test score ever at the DECA District 10 Contest. Because Geordi has placed first in his event, he will receive a DECA scholarship that will be an additional $1,500 per year at Northwood University. Congratulations to all participants!

A recent financial audit of the West Geauga Local School District (Geauga County) by Auditor of State Dave Yost’s office has returned a clean audit report. The West Geauga Local School District’s excellent record keeping has earned it the Auditor of State Award with Distinction. “Clean financial books are vital to accountability in government,” Auditor Yost said. “The West Geauga Local School District is clearly committed to maintaining accurate records, and I am proud to present this award to the district."
