The 2016 girls tennis team finished this year as one of the most successful in West Geauga history and ended on a fantastic note. With an overall record of 13 wins and 4 losses, the coaches and players were very pleased with the outcome of the season.
The team started off with a tough loss versus their rival school, Orange. They fought hard but couldn’t pull through with a “W.” Starting up a winning streak in their next four matches directly after Orange had the girls on fire.
Without a single loss in the month of September, the girls team ended up being 2nd overall in the CVC, having a conference record of 5-2. While the team was tied for 2nd place, overall, in the league, they were co-champs with Geneva in the Valley Division.
Individually some of the girls shined all season. Rachel Ange and Rachel Bobango were CVC 1stDouble Champions. Mackenzie Hanford was also crowned 2nd singles CVC Champ. Lauren Ralph earned the “Most Improved” player award and Deanna Swinerton snagged the team MVP!
Varsity captain, Hailey Donato, said, ¨We had a great season and I’m sad it’s over. I’ll miss playing with these girls.” The team seemed to really bond, laughing and having fun at practice every day.
Head coach Mr. Eugene Ciasullo was really proud of how well the girls played this season. He’s looking forward to the upcoming years with the underclassmen and is sad and already missing the seniors who are leaving. See more at: http://wgwhirlwind.org/1065/sports/the-net-result-was-awesome/
