West Geauga has welcomed several new members to the staff for the 2017 – 2018 school year. Mrs. Denise Garrett is the latest to be introduced here on the Whirlwind site. Mrs. Garrett is our new occupational therapist here at the high school, as well as district – wide.
Mrs. Garrett has been working as an O.T. in the school setting for roughly 20 years. She attended Lake Catholic High School in Mentor and then went on to attend The Ohio State University for her undergraduate degree. After she graduated from college, she was a traveling O.T. and she worked in a variety of places, including Indiana, Maine, Florida, California, and Texas.
Before working at West Geauga in the educational setting, she worked in various different disciplines like clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, and private homes. Mrs. Garrett says she started working at the high school because she likes working with children and she likes the school schedule. Her goals for the students this year are, “…to improve their sensory and motor skills in order to best meet their needs.”
Not only is Mrs. Garrett active in her job here at work, she is also involved in numerous interesting and fun activities outside of school. She enjoys volunteering at church and community events, watching her two sons’ sports games, skiing, windsurfing, kayaking, and stand-up paddle boarding. Mrs. Garrett lives here in Chesterland and both of her sons, Patrick and Clay, attend the West Geauga schools.
Mrs. Garrett says, “The students, teachers, and parents have been very welcoming!”
