Newbury Farewell Opportunity

Recently, the West Geauga School Board determined the former Newbury High and Middle School building was no longer needed for the education of West Geauga’s students. Due to the Board’s decision, outside contractors will soon prepare the building for demolition. We understand many Newbury community members have fond memories associated with the building, and a well-attended farewell event was held on Saturday, February 26, 2022. Former students and community members gathered at the school to tour the building.

We are taking orders from those interested in reserving a brick from the high school and middle school. The brick will contain a commemorative plaque with an image of the building. You can reserve your brick by clicking the link here.

Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Learn

Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Learn (or the 3 R's) are the behavioral expectations for the West Geauga Local School District. These expectations were created by a core team of individuals as a way to initiate the PBIS Protocol.
PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) is an initiative from the Ohio Department of Education that helps promote positive behaviors in students and helps improve overall school climate.

No Place for Hate

"No Place for Hate Schools" Recognition

Dear West Geauga Parents/Guardians,

I am pleased to announce that R. C. Lindsey Elementary School, Westwood Elementary School, West Geauga Middle School, and West Geauga High School have been recognized as 2019-2020 "No Place for Hate Schools" by the Cleveland Chapter of the Anti-Defamation League. West Geauga's four schools are among thirty-three schools throughout Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania to receive this honor.

In its recent press release, ADL cited participating schools' efforts "combating, bias, bullying, and hatred, leading to long-term solutions for creating and maintaining a positive and equitable climate." Alana Bandos, Education Director for ADL Cleveland stated "We could not be prouder of the schools achieving the No Place for Hate designation for the 2019-2020 school year . . . and we are delighted to designate each school as No Place for Hate."

Recent national events have underscored the need to combat issues of intolerance and prejudice. Our district's commitment and efforts to promote inclusion regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, learning style, or any other personal characteristics that define us as individuals are more important now than ever. While we still have work to do, I am pleased that West G is on a journey to make our schools safe and welcome learning environments for all.

Congratulations to the students, staff, and families who worked together to earn us the No Place for Hate recognition during the 2019-2020 school year. We will remain committed to these efforts.

If your family has submitted an application in the 19-20 or 20-21 SY, you do not need to apply this year, but you will automatically qualify. This year’s school transportation information is found on your Infinite Campus Parent Portal.  Once logged in to your account, click on the More tab and then Transportation.

Please give our drivers a ten-minute leeway at the beginning of the year.  Routes will become more accurate as students, families, and drivers become accustomed to bus stop information. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA) require masks for all bus drivers and passengers. Please provide your student with a mask that can be worn on the school bus and throughout the day.
