West Geauga Board Appoints New Member West Geauga Board Appoints New Member
Dr. William W. Beers was appointed to the West Geauga Local School District Board of Education by a unanimous vote of its members at the Board's regular meeting on September 25, 2017. Dr. Beers will serve the unexpired term of Mr. Tom Allen who resigned from the Board on August 30, 2017 due to increasing business obligations.

Dr. Beers' formal education, culminating in a Ph.D in inorganic chemistry, his career as a System Engineer, and his experience as a member of the West Geauga Board of Education from 2002-2013 qualify him as one who understands the opportunities and challenges inherent in formal education.

The Board selected Dr. Beers from a pool of five qualified applicants. The Board thanks each candidate for his/her willingness to volunteer time and energy in the education of our community's youth.

Dear West Geauga Parent/Guardian,

Last week, the Ohio Department of Education released its report cards for all of Ohio's public school systems. Overall, West Geauga had a slight gain in our district's Performance Index (PI) but our PI rank fell due to comparative gains by other districts throughout the state. Although West G was again named, for the second consecutive year, to The Cleveland Plain Dealer's list of Top Twenty Northeast Ohio school districts, we are not yet performing at the level of the premier districts with whom we should be comparing ourselves. We are determined to be one of the top schools, not just in Geauga County, but the entire state.

The greatest need for improvement in West G, as indicated on the the district Report Card, relates to the component grade in Achievement, an area in which West G only received a C due primarily to failed Performance Indicators in specific subject areas at specific grade levels. This year, the Ohio Department of Education raised the bar for passage of the indicators and some scores, which would have been "passed" in the past, are now "failed" areas. The good news is that the areas are easily identifiable and we have already taken measures to correct them for the current school year. A copy of the report card is available at http://reportcard.education.ohio.gov/Pages/District-Report.aspx?DistrictIRN=047225. On another positive note, our elementary schools' scores place them among the best in the state.
From the Superintendent : Welcome Back! From the Superintendent : Welcome Back!

Dear West Geauga Residents:

We are preparing to welcome our students back to school for the 2017-2018 school year. Many of our staff members have worked throughout the summer hiring new personnel, securing equipment and supplies, and working to improve our buildings and grounds. Teachers return next Monday, August 21, and students will arrive on Tuesday, August 22.

Fifteen new staff members are joining our ranks this year. In many cases, they replace those who retired or resigned. For the first time in several years, we will have six classes each in grades Kindergarten through Grade Five.

The past school year was a good one for West Geauga. The district received positive recognition and accolades from several national and regional publications including Newsweek, U.S. News and World Report, Washington Post, and Cleveland Magazine. Such recognition is a credit to our community and to those who work in and attend its schools.

Thank you for affording us the resources to offer a comprehensive K-12 curriculum and a healthy array of extracurricular programming in athletics and the arts. We value your continued support.
