College and Career Readiness Test Selection

Dear Parents of West G Juniors: All public school districts in Ohio are now required to offer either the SAT or the ACT as one potential path to high school graduation. The college entrance test is to be given in the spring of the students’ junior year. Two other paths to graduation also exist. One is successful passage of end-of-course exams – the most typical route for high school students. The third is a vocational certificate for students entering a specific work-related field like welding or cosmetology. As a school district, West Geauga has chosen to utilize the ACT to fulfill the college entrance exam graduation pathway in 2016. This was not an easy decision. Various factors weigh in favor of both ACT and SAT, but districts must choose only one. Local school districts vary in their choices.

West Geauga High School to Host "Hidden In Plain Sight"
Looks can be deceiving.

That’s the message behind a unique traveling exhibit created by the Bath and Copley Township Police Departments. The display is called “Hidden in Plain Sight.” The departments constructed what appears to be at first glance the bedroom of the average teenager. But amidst the clutter of clothing scattered on the floor, school supplies...

School District Report Card Released
Dear West Geauga Parents/Guardians: Each year, the Ohio Department of Education publishes a local district report card for each of the state’s public school systems. These report cards offer a partial picture of every district’s successes and weaknesses. The 2016 report card was released today. I am pleased to note that West Geauga has made significant academic progress in the past year. While work remains to be done, as a community, we should be proud of our gains. It is significant to note that the district has received a grade of “A” in both “Progress” and “Value Added” for 2016. This represents a huge improvement.
Parent Gradebook Portal Update
Dear Parents/Guardians:

West Geauga Local Schools has recently transitioned the district Student Information System from DASL to Infinite Campus. This change in services is driven by our current provider, who has moved their support to the Infinite Campus platform. This will allow us the opportunity to continue and improve upon your expectations for communications on the progress of your child.

A Message From the Superintendent...
Dear West Geauga Parent/Guardian:

With the arrival of August, the start of school is fast approaching. As superintendent, I keep staff members updated throughout summer break about what is happening in our district. I would like to do similarly for you at this point. As most of you probably know, the Board of Education Office remains open throughout June, July, and August to prepare for the next school year.

We have all of our administrative and teaching staff in place for 2016-2017. We still have a couple support staff positions that need to be filled prior to the start of school. We have two new elementary principals who have been doing much to prepare their schools for the return of students and staff. We hired a new school psychologist to replace one who retired and added an elementary school library media specialist. We hired a new half-time Business teacher at West Geauga High School to replace one who resigned. Kindergarten enrollment necessitated the addition of a sixth kindergarten classroom and enabled us to recall a teacher from last year’s Reduction in Force (RIF) list. In fact, through the creation of some new teaching positions, the filling of long-term leaves of absence, and securing teaching jobs in other school districts, all but one of our teachers on last year’s RIF list have full-time employment for the upcoming school year. That one person has a part-time teaching assignment with West G.
