Building Math Skills

We are continuing to develop our addition and subtraction skills through ongoing practice of taught concepts. Students are utilizing math tools and manipulatives such as counters, ten frames, place value charts, number lines, and math grids to solve math problems. In addition, students are learning how to write out their answers to math story problems.

How can you help your child at home with math?

  • Give your child story problems to try and solve. Have them explain how to solve the problem. Let them write out the equation and draw pictures to solve.

  • Count by ones, twos, fives, and tens.

  • Cooking involves a lot of counting and measuring. Let your child help!

  • Practice addition and subtraction flash cards.

  • Play math related games.
