The West Geauga Board of Education is taking applications to fill a position on the board of the West Geauga Joint Recreation District. Candidates can be residents anywhere in the West Geauga School district, which includes Chester, Newbury and Russell Townships, along with small parts of neighboring communities.
The mission statement of the WGJR states, "The West Geauga Community Joint Recreation mission is to acquire and develop land to provide facilities to serve the West Geauga communities' recreational needs." It is best known for managing the West Geauga Commons, a recreational area near the intersection of Chillicothe Rd and Fairmount Rd in Russell Township. It includes popular dog walking and jogging trails, baseball fields, multi-sport football/soccer fields, basketball courts, playground and a pavillion.
Qualifications of ideal candidates should include previous involvement in youth league sports, knowledge of facilities and field maintenance, the ability to work with a dedicated board and willingness to pitch in where needed to maintain the condition of this facility to serve the West Geauga community.
