Students in West G's Bees Club

During the first West Geauga Board of Education meeting of 2026, the district welcomed two new board members, Mark Vidmar and Ellen Naylor. The Board also elected Pam Claypool as President and re-elected Dr. Bill Beers as Vice President. Congratulations to all on their new roles and continued commitment to excellence at West Geauga Local Schools.

Several special presentations were shared with the Board during the meeting. Mrs. Prince introduced a group of Lindsey Elementary students in grades 3–5, who highlighted what they are learning, shared fun activities and events taking place at their school, and spoke about what they enjoy most about Lindsey Elementary. The students did a wonderful job representing their school.

Mrs. Carrie Morgano also presented the results of the fall NOETIC Math Learning Contest, which included more than 33,000 students nationwide in grades 2–8. The nine West Geauga team winners were recognized, including two of those students who achieved the highest distinction of National Honor Roll status by scoring in the top 10 percent of their grade level among thousands of peers across the nation.

Members of West Geauga’s Bees Club also provided an update on their exciting program, which was founded less than a year ago. Last year, the Board approved the installation of a beehive on campus in partnership with Youth Bee Works. Since then, students have been actively involved in the care of the hive, culminating in the club’s first honey extraction this fall. The harvest yielded forty-four 4-ounce jars of honey and one pound of beeswax. The honey sold out at the club’s first event, and the club looks forward to introducing beeswax chapstick to the market soon. Proceeds from sales have been reinvested in additional bee suits and supplies, and the club is eager to continue growing the program with hopes of adding another hive in the future.
