New Kindergarten Entrance Requirements - In response to the provisions of House Bill 114, public schools are required to admit to kindergarten any child who will be five (5) years old by the first day of instruction of the school year of admittance. It is suggested that districts designate the first day of kindergarten instruction as the qualifying date of admittance. The law also declares that a child must be six (6) by September 30th for enrollment in first grade.
At West Geauga, the first day of kindergarten instruction for the 2026-2027 school year is August 18, 2026. Students must be age 5 by this date to enroll in kindergarten.
